French Empire oak chest with marble top
£1,250.00
Handsome French, Empire-period oak four-drawer chest with a black marble top. A great early 19C example, with three large drawers beneath a shallower top drawer, and columns to the sides. The original locks are still present to two drawers and missing to the third, but the escutcheon plates are all present and correct, as are the simple turned handles. Oak construction, including dovetailed drawer sides and bottoms, the latter of which run transversely that confirm its early date. The black marble top is in lovely condition and like the cabinet has just minor wear consistent with age, but nothing off-putting or that detracts. All joints are solid and good, and there are just a few minor worm holes to the base of the legs, but nothing live, and have been treated as a precaution. A good example of an almost 200 year old piece that would work well in both contemporary or period settings. The internal drawer measurements are: H: 15cm x W: 90cm x D: 47cm.
H: 94cm x W: 132cm x D: 64cm
